The Pocket Neighbourhood project seeks to insert eight tiny dwellings within an existing neighbourhood. A competition looked for solutions.
Our submission seeks to find a scale and form that allows what is significant change in density and type to sit within the existing character of the area at the same time as creating interesting, innovative and sustainable dwellings that will encourage the formation of a community whilst respecting the needs of individuals to privacy.
SEPP 65 lays down minimum sizes for studio and one bed apartments – these have been taken as maximum areas allowing area for common areas which help develop the sense of community. Economic, Ecological and Social sustainability were considered. Services are renewable, food production is encouraged, community interaction is part of the design, materials are chosen to minimise cost and benefit health.
